Frequently Asked Questions — Hong Kong

What is the maximum GPA at HKU?

On the 4.3 scale, the maximum GPA is 4.3 — achieved by earning A+ in every course. A pure A average gives a 4.0 GPA.

Is HK 4.3 GPA the same as US 4.0?

Close but not identical. The 4.3 scale rewards A+ with a true bonus. For US grad school applications, most universities accept the HK 4.3 transcript as-is and apply their own normalisation. A 3.7 HK GPA is roughly a 3.5 US GPA equivalent.
