GPA to Percentage for the US 4.0 Scale

There is no official US-wide formula for converting GPA to a percentage — multiplying GPA by 25 is not a real conversion. US grades flow the other way: each institution maps percentage scores to letter grades, and letters to grade points. To express a GPA as a percentage, you can only point to the typical percentage band behind each letter grade, and those bands are set by each institution.
