How KTU Calculates SGPA and CGPA
KTU computes SGPA and CGPA on a 10-point scale: multiply each course's grade point by its credits, sum across courses, and divide by the total credits. The grade points are O = 10, A+ = 9, A = 8.5, B+ = 8, B = 7, C = 6, P = 5 (minimum pass), and F/FE = 0. For percentage conversion, current KTU references use CGPA × 10 — see the CGPA to percentage guide for scheme-specific rules.
The KTU grade points
| Grade | Grade point |
|---|---|
| O | 10 |
| A+ | 9 |
| A | 8.5 |
| B+ | 8 |
| B | 7 |
| C | 6 |
| P | 5 |
| F / FE | 0 |

SGPA vs CGPA
- SGPA covers one semester: Σ(credit × grade point) ÷ Σ(credits) for that semester's courses.
- CGPA is cumulative: the same credit-weighted calculation across all semesters completed so far.
How F and FE grades behave
F (failed) and FE (failed due to eligibility) carry zero grade points. The attempted credits can weigh on your SGPA/CGPA until the course is cleared under your scheme's rules, so a single F pulls the average down significantly until you pass the course in a later attempt.
Percentage conversion
Use Percentage = CGPA × 10 when your KTU conversion certificate, university order or college notice follows the current KTU references. Use the older 2015-scheme formula, (CGPA − 0.5) × 10, only when a legacy document explicitly prints it. Full details in the CGPA to percentage guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is KTU SGPA calculated?
Multiply each course's grade point (O=10 down to P=5, F=0) by the course credits, add these up for the semester, and divide by the semester's total credits.
Does an F grade affect KTU CGPA even after I pass the course later?
F and FE carry zero grade points at the time of the result. Once cleared, the passing grade applies per your scheme's regulation — check the current KTU rule for how the earlier attempt is reflected on the grade card.
Is this the same for KTU 2019 and 2024 schemes?
The calculation method (credit-weighted, 10-point) is the same pattern, but grade tables and rules can differ by scheme. This guide models the 2015-scheme scale; verify newer schemes against the official KTU regulation for your batch.
